Cambridge Folk Festival and other summer news

Written by Threepenny Bit - 2015-04-16 15:47:05

Forget what the Met Office have to say - for us, Summer officially starts tomorrow. Why is that? It's because we're kicking off this year's summer festival season at Folk Weekend Oxford! There's already been some great TPB shout-outs in the local press, with a mention in the Oxford Mail, the featuring of one of our tracks on BBC Radio Oxford today, (Listen here at 2.17.00 if you're interested. Content will be available until 16/05/15) and an assertion from the Oxford Culture Review that we're "not to be missed"! Another reason for celebration at TPB HQ is that we've been booked to play at the mighty Cambridge Folk Festival this year! How exciting!

Anyway, in case you struggle to keep up with all this hedonistic abandon, here is the complete list of festivals we'll be playing at in 2015.

Folk Weekend Oxford. Oxford is home to Josh and Hannah and its Folk Weekend is one of the highlights of the year. We played here last year supporting Blackbeard's Tea Party and this year we're back in the Old Fire Station on Friday 17th April for a concert set, followed by a ceilidh in St Barnabas Church on Saturday 18th. Josh and Steve are also running a workshop for chord-playing musicians on Saturday afternoon.

Rochester Sweeps. A slightly mad, morris-dancing folk music event held on the May bank holiday weekend every year in Rochester. We're back running our ever-chaotic street ceilidhs on Monday afternoon.

Wimborne Minster Folk Festival. Back when we used to busk every day, Wimborne was one of our regular haunts so we're really pleased to see its folk festival thriving again. We're playing an afternoon ceilidh and evening concert on Sunday 14th June.

Folk on the Quay. A marvellous, free, open air festival held over a weekend on Poole waterfront. We're playing a ceilidh in the afternoon and a concert in the evening of Saturday 27th June.

Ely Folk Festival. Held in the heart of Cambridgeshire, this festival always boasts an amazing line-up of folk artists. We're proud to be playing the late night ceilidh on Friday 10th July.

Cambridge Folk Festival. The Big Daddy. We never in our wildest dreams thought we'd be playing at a festival with this much history! It runs between 30th July and 2nd August. We'll be playing a concert on the Den stage on Saturday 1st. Individual tickets for that day have sold out but weekend tickets are still available.

Sidmouth Folk Week. Ah Sidmouth! What self-respecting folk lover hasn't taken at least one pilgrimage to this bastion of pewter mugs, fish & chips, real ale and traditional music? You can spot us in the Anchor Gardens for a ceilidh on 4th August and again for a concert on the 6th.

Purbeck Valley Festival. Without a doubt, the best small-ish festival going right now! This is the third year running that we'll have played this glorious, friendly and diverse festival. It's held on a farm in Dorset and the line-up is always fantastic! We're doing a late night concert on Friday 28th August and a ceilidh on Saturday 29th.

London Folk Festival. In its second year now, this is an indoor festival taking place entirely at the great home of English folk music, Cecil Sharp House. We're playing a concert in the late afternoon on September 12th.

That’s it! We hope to see some of you out and about enjoying the festival atmosphere this summer. More non-festival gig listings can be found on the Gigs page of this website.
